When Texas governor Rick Perry couldn’t remember the name of the third federal government agency he claims he would eliminate, he exposed a dirty little secret of the politicians who say they want to cut big government.

The secret? They haven’t studied what the programs or agencies they say they will cut actually do.

Perry couldn’t even remember the name of the energy department, much less tell what it does.

Talk, talk, talk. Blah, blah, blah.

If you live in Ohio, vote “No” on Issue Two next Tuesday. Voting “No” will repeal SB-5, which stripped public employees of bargaining rights. It will also send a message to governor John “Wall Street” Kasich, who would be the nation’s dickiest governor except that Scott Walker is governor of Wisconsin. Kasich says this is about saving money but it’s not. It’s about waging political and ideological warfare and enriching his big money backers.

Who says private industry is more efficient?

One of the mantras of conservatives is that private enterprise always is more efficient than government. Therefore turnpikes must be sold, prisons must be privatized and public schools gutted and turned over to the amateurs in charter school.

This theory can be disproved by the simple American hamburger.

The story came out this week that fast food company Wendy’s spent 2 1/2 years studying how to improve its hamburger. After 2 1/2 years of brainstorming, its answer was to make the burger thicker. Two and a half years to come up with that answer. What efficiency!

CNBC goes to the dark side without Haines, Burnett

Wow, do I miss Erin Burnett and Mark Haines on CNBC in the morning. I like my financial reporting without a conservative agenda. Haines and Burnett held everyone’s feet to the fire, didn’t play favorites.

The laughably predictable Joe Kernen has written a book called “Your Teacher Said What?!: Defending Our Kids from the Liberal Assault on Capitalism”

A better title would be “My Kid Heard Something At School That’s Different From What Everyone At The Country Club Says And I Don’t Like It.”

Obama world’s worst negotiator

The reported debt ceiling agreement proves one thing: Obama is the world’s worst negotiator. Republicans play hardball, he plays tee ball. He punts on first down. I must have been mistaken. I thought I was voting in the Democratic primary when I voted for him in the spring of 2008. More and more it seems like I was wrong. I had hopes he would grow a spine, but it’s clear he is incapable of that. You wonder how the Republicans keep a straight face when they “negotiate” with him. If he had been around in 1783, he would have negotiated a treaty that let the British have veto power over everything the United States did and proclaimed it a balanced outcome that benefitted both sides.

Let me get this straight. Ohio State’s football coach Jim Tressel covers up NCAA violations by several of his players, denies knowledge of the wrongdoing of his players verbally and in writing to his bosses and the NCAA, plays the ineligible players for most of last season and the only people who have gotten fired in Columbus are a sports talk show host who criticized him and the football sports information director, who has been reassigned (exiled) to the Siberia of Ohio State sports — women’s soccer and softball, men’s swimming and women’s swimming.

Tea Party types hate government…until it pays them

I had no doubts the Tea Party activists were both shameless and clueless, but this settled it.

One of the big Tea Party backers in a nearby town, complete with the “Don’t Tread on Me” flag fluttering in the breeze outside his house, has received more than $500,000 in federal crop subsidies in the last 10 years. He says he wants the government off his back but he takes that money from the government. Somebody is paying taxes for that. I guess that’s different.
